Bio
Doomsday Machine Schematic began in its earliest stages in late 2004. Prior to Doomsday, we were a melodic hardcore band called Theory of Angels. The line-up was basically the same, until we picked up Josh as a bass player. After a few practices, the ditching of 95% of TOA songs, and the writing of faster and more technical material, we decided to get rid of the name Theory of Angels. John was actually using the name Doomsday Machine Schematic in a joke band he had with The Adept’s guitar player Rob Worton, but due to the need for a name and the fact that it would make for a sweet name for a grindcore band, we usurped it. In December of 2004, Doomsday Machine Schematic was born.
We immediately started writing songs with a new approach, trying to be as fast and technical as possible. We started playing shows in May of 2005 and recorded our first official demo “Kill Zombies or Die Trying” over the summer in our basement. Shows became more frequent, songs became shorter and faster, and we began to develop into a band more fitting of the moniker we hailed. In the winter of 2005 we put out a split CD with a Portuguese tech-metal band The Art of Chaos. This split wrapped up the majority of our “The Black Dahlia Murder meets The Dillinger Escape Plan” material and allowed us to focus on creating the music we set out to write in the first place. Again, we recorded this in our basement at our leisure.
In June of 2006 we hit the road with Epilepsy for three days on our first tour. Lovingly titled the “Bulldoze Pennsyltucky ‘06” tour, we got our first taste of life on the road and made the conscience decision to travel as much as possible before the inevitable day that Doomsday Machine Schematic was no more. In August of 2006 we put out a split CD with Epilepsy. All the songs for the split were recorded by Dan Marchini (Adder) and Dave Belsky in Dan’s basement.
On January 5th 2007, we set forth on a 9 day tour from
At this point Joe, John, and Josh were in school full-time, not leaving many hours for the band. The conscience decision was made to rerecord all the material we had written as well as record 8 new songs for the first time. This would serve the purpose of both summarizing the first 3 years of Doomsday Machine Schematic musically as well as doing better justice to some older songs that never got the chance of a decent recording. We agreed on the title “Grind Opening” for the full-length discography as a nod to deceased Nasum front man Mieszko Talarczyk (RIP 1975-2004). We wanted to try and carry on the ideology of Nasum musically, politically, and ethically in future releases. This CD is an attempt to reflect upon the past 3 years and recall what it was that compelled the five of us to lose jobs, money, and girlfriends for. The answer of course was and still is the chance to play the music you crave with the people you love for the people who hate it. 3 years, 24 songs, 3 tours, 0 regrets.
With 2008 now officially underway, we are gearing up to record and have begun writing the music that will redefine Doomsday Machine Schematic. While we are still are taking a break from shows at the moment, we will be back with a vengeance this summer. Get ready for fucking Doomsday.
